Newport is known as an awesome place to learn to surf because of its many beginner-friendly beaches. It also has a few expert-only beaches such as its world-wide claim to fame called ‘The Wedge’. This break is known for massive 10-20 foot high shorebreak. Watching the action with the crowds on the beach is definitely worth it!
Balboa Island is another especially popular local attraction as the quaint water-front community has a unique beauty and small-town vibe. The plethora of fun activities and tasty restaurants here are great for everyone.
Meet us at the Newport Jetties
Don’t be intimidated by Newport’s reputation – there are many ideal spots along its coastline for newbies to learn to surf. The Newport Jetties are the most consistent break in the area and our favorite to teach at. Located by the Santa Ana River mouth, this area almost always has some waves. In the summer and on smaller days it’s mellow and perfect for beginners!
This beach is family-friendly and provides an awesome laid-back area for novices. Mostly locals paddle out here.
Our instructors will meet you at the Newport Jetties with surfboards & wetsuits. All you have to do is show up ready to catch waves!
