Learning to Surf – A New Year’s Resolution

Stuck on which New Year’s resolution to focus on this year? The best New Year’s Resolution is definitely learning to surf! Not only is it an incredibly fun way to spend your time, it gets you outside, provides a great workout, and facilitates new friendships.

Here are four reasons why learning to surf should be your top resolution for 2022:

1. Learning to Surf is a Wildly Fun Hobby

Surfing formed around enjoying fun and the pure stoke of catching a wave. It’s what the sport is all about.

Ask any surfer and they will probably describe their surfing journey as addicting. They caught a wave and it was exhilarating! This propelled them to catch another wave, more invigorating than the last. That then encouraged them to catch another, even more enjoyable wave. And so the pattern went until they were incredibly hooked on the experience and came out of the water breathless, starry-eyed, and almost high on the pleasure they received from their surf session.

Give it a try and just watch – the excitement and thrill of it will lure you in before you know what happened!

We can all agree that getting some fresh air and being outdoors is good for the soul. However, do you know what’s even better? Combining that fresh air with a dip in the ocean and some sweet waves, of course!

A little time out in the water will remind you of the beauty of the marine environment such as dolphins playing while you are waiting for a set or the water sparkling golden and orange during your sunset session.

Making time to prioritize appreciating the lovely world you live in will brighten your day and widen your smile!

Surfing is a workout – there is no doubt about it. After a couple sessions of hauling the board down to the beach and paddling for waves, your arms will be ripped! Not only will your muscle strength improve, but your balance and coordination will be both challenged and enhanced.

When wetsuit season ends, you’ll be stoked to spend the summer showing off your trim beach bod.

4. Learning to Surf Forms Great Friendships

Surfing is the most incredible pastime, however, the community that forms around it is even more special. It is an opportunity to spend time with awesome people who love the water and the sport as much as you do. There’s never a dull moment – meeting new faces in the line-up, laughing with buddies in between sets, and cheering friends on as they ride sick waves are just a few examples of the fun that occurs.

So grab a friend and head to the coast! Surfing with friends is a two-for-one deal – you get to enjoy both their company and the waves.
