The holiday season is upon us and many are thinking about gifts and holiday shopping. This season is all about consuming and people go absolutely crazy over Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals. Instead of joining the mess of people that eagerly wait in long lines for stores to open on Black Friday, why don’t you try something different and instead, opt outside? We love REI’s Opt Outside concept because it leads by example its value that everything that you could possibly need can be found outside. REI CEO Jerry Stritzke explains, “As a co-op, we share a simple belief that time in the outdoors makes us healthier and happier—as individuals and as a society,” via a statement announcing the Opt Outside concept. State and national parks across the country joined in the movement the last two years and many are doing it again this year by offering free entry to their parks to encourage individuals to explore.
Since the inception of REI’s Opt Outside concept two years ago, tons of organizations have followed suit and have come up with their own creative ways to help people get outdoors and connect with friends and family. This movement is inspiring and aligns with our own values as well.
Our favorite outdoor playground is the ocean. The ocean has so many lessons to teach and our favorite way of interacting with it is SURFING! Surfing provides a humbling experience that pushes your mental and physical limits while also being an awesome hobby to share with loved ones. This Black Friday and in honor of REI’s concept of Opt Outside, we’re challenging you to get out there, catch some waves and share your experience with your loved ones.
Don’t know how to surf? No problem! We’re offering discounts on our private and group surf lessons for a limited time only. Purchase a surf lesson starting on Friday, November 24th, 2017, and save up to $55 off! Offer ends on November 27th at 11:59 PM. Surf lesson can be reserved for a future date. The purchase of gift certificates are included in this offer.
We will be spending our Friday out in the water, sharing waves with family and friends, and connecting with nature. What will you be doing? #OptOutside
