Learn to surf in ‘Surf City USA’ – the center of Southern California surf culture.
Huntington’s nickname is fitting as this city paved the way for the sport of surfing as we know it today. Hawaiian Duke Kahanamoku brought surfing here in 1925 and Huntington embraced it wholeheartedly, leading to the rise of surfing’s popularity across the U.S.
Travelers from all over the world come to visit this fun destination on the pacific coast of Los Angeles. Nestled between Newport Beach and Seal Beach, Huntington Beach is famous for its lengthy pier, awesome waves, and classic beach-y vibe.
The Huntington Beach Pier is the focal point of the city. It’s surrounded by a hip and laid-back downtown area with incredible restaurants and surfing-inspired shops. Huntington’s consistent waves also make it a destination for tons of surf competitions such as the U.S. Open of Surfing!
Some of the top beaches in the area are Bolsa Chica State Beach, Huntington City Beach, and Sunset.
The beaches cater to those improving their surfing skills – beginner and pro surfers alike love them! This makes Huntington the perfect place for a lesson with a premier surf school such as Wavehuggers!
Meet Us North of the Pier
The best spot to have surf lessons in Huntington Beach is on the north side of the Pier. Smooth and broad, it’s ideal for novice surfers and almost always has waves to ride. It is easily accessible and waves break far enough from shore that new surfers have time to nail the pop-up.
Our professional surf instructors will meet you at the beach with all the equipment needed – surfboards & wetsuits!
As a surf school, Wavehuggers prides itself in the ability to tailor each surfing lesson to the skill level of the individual. We welcome beginner surfers, intermediate surfers and experienced surfers of all ages, even kids as young as 2 years old! Whether you choose private surfing lessons or group lessons, the surf knowledge and ocean safety you’ll learn will propel you to catch awesome waves!
At the beginning of the lesson, you’ll learn about ocean safety, surfing technique and the basics of surfing. Then you’ll hop in the water!
Once you get in the water, our instructors will be right there to support you and give you tips as you go through the surf lesson! They will help you in real-time to develop your surfing skills. Think of them as a coach! You’ll learn how to choose a wave to catch, when and how to paddle, the correct timing for popping up and how to steer your board. By the end of the lesson, you might just be a pro! 😉
Our CPR-Certified instructors will meet you north of the Huntington Pier with surfboards & wetsuits. All you have to do is show up ready to catch waves!
