Located north of the tourist hot-spots of Pacific Beach, Mission Beach and Ocean Beach and just south of Del Mar, La Jolla has a relaxed, classy flair and unparalleled natural beauty.

It’s an ocean-lover’s paradise! Boogie-boarders, surfer girls and kids splashing in the water dot the scenic coastline. Calm waters lap the sand at La Jolla Shores Beach drawing beginner and intermediate surfers. The world-famous waves of Black’s Beach are magnets for experienced surfers. Walkers and joggers cruise the scenic beach paths.

Those who love animals are enamored with the colony of seals at The Children’s Pool Beach. La Jolla Cove also boasts unique water caves and remarkable wildlife which draw many snorkelers, scuba divers, paddle boarders and kayakers.  The world-famous San Diego Zoo is even nearby for those who want another wildlife adventure!

La Jolla also caters to the foodies and shoppers of your group with the quaint La Jolla Village. Art galleries, upscale eateries, and unique boutiques are interspersed with stunning hotels and gorgeous ocean views.

Scripps Beach and Tourmaline Surf Park are arguably the best places to for private surf lessons and group surf lessons in all of San Diego.

Scripps is on the north side of town in front of UCSD’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Tourmaline is a little farther south on the boarder of Pacific Beach and La Jolla. Both beaches are wide, flat and sandy with calm waters and rolling waves. They are ideal for group gatherings, families with young kids and novice surfers.

Our experienced instructors will meet you at the beach with all the surf equipment needed – surfboards & wetsuits! Before getting in the water, they will teach you about ocean safety, surf technique and the basics of surfing.

As a surf school, Wavehuggers prides itself in the ability to tailor each surf lesson to the skill level of the individual. We welcome beginners, intermediate surfers and advanced surfers too! Whether you choose a private lesson or a group lesson, the surfing knowledge and ocean safety you learn will propel you to catch awesome waves! And we will be right there to support you and give you tips as you go!

 

PARKING: Both beaches have sizable parking lots located next to the sand and additionally have parking on the nearby neighborhood streets. However, parking can still get packed on hot summer days. Get there early to get a spot!

 

Experienced instructors will meet you in La Jolla with surfboards & wetsuits. All you have to do is show up ready to catch waves!
