What You Can Expect to Find in Malibu:
Scenic villas dot the cliffs as this area is a hot spot for celebrities and millionaires. The Malibu Pier juts off of downtown and is surrounded by iconic shops and restaurants. The famous Getty Museum and lovely Pepperdine University are located nearby.
Popular beaches in this area include Leo Carillo, Topanga, Zuma, and Sunset Point. Much of the coastline is either rocky or pumps out waves for very experienced surfers. However, Sunset Point is an awesome spot for people to learn.

What Makes Malibu Great for Beginners?
Sunset Point Beach is in the Pacific Palisades area of Malibu. The wide, sandy beach has smooth, rolling waves that are great for beginners. It’s typically a mellow longboarding break. The laid-back vibe and gentle waves make it ideal for families, longboarders, and novice surfers. The long rides allow plenty of time for individuals to practice popping up.
Parking is located along Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) near the beach. Sunset also boasts volleyball nets and lots of room on the sand for soaking up the sun.
When is the Best Time to Go?
The waves at Sunset are best in the summer. Be sure to check the tide before heading to the beach – sand is only visible here during lower tides. During high tide the water comes all the way up to PCH and there is no sand.

Who Surfs in Malibu?
Expect to see many longboarders of varying skill levels as well as lots of beginners at Sunset Point. Foamies, logs, and longboards are the typical boards of choice here.
