The anticipation for summer to finally come around and get back in the water is usually what’s on everyone’s minds, but South Bay locals are just getting fired up now since they know that October is the best month for surfing in SoCal. Though summer brings about a playful vibe with long days, warm water, and even warmer weather, it also delivers massive crowds because Southern California is a hot spot for tourists. Though summer is often a great time to learn how to surf, the best kept secret is actually October being the best month to surf in Southern California for all levels of surfing (beginners, intermediate, advanced surfers). October surfing is our favorite for four reasons:

1. It’s play time for the locals

The crowds are gone because tourists are gone. Say hello to solo surf sessions and high fiving the locals again.

2.The weather

Even though itโ€™s not summer anymore, the weather is still beautiful, warm, and sunny. You can still sport shorts and sandals around while drinking your pumpkin spice latte.

3. Santa Anas

The Santa Ana conditions are in full swing meaning offshore winds all day resulting in glassy waves with a better shape. What more could you ask for?

4. Swells

October is the sweet spot in between summer and fall seasons so we get both late summer swells and early fall swells. We could not be more excited for the swells to come rolling in!

Carving pumpkins, sipping sweet pumpkin spice lattes, getting creative with halloween costume ideas, and surfing warm playful waves is what October is all about here in Southern California. ๐ŸŽƒ
