What Makes Redondo Beach Great for Beginners?

An areal view of Redondo Beach.

Redondo County Beach and South Redondo are great for beginners because they are pretty consistent breaks. The large and smooth sandy beach provides gentle waves and shallow whitewater for those still learning. Waves closer to the Pier will be slightly larger and form better.

Lifeguards cover this whole stretch of beach. Nearby parking lots and paved ramps to the beach make the trek to the sand smooth and easy! However, it can get crowded in the summer.

When is the Best Time to Go?

These breaks are pretty steady and typically have waves that surfers of many abilities enjoy. However, western swells will bring the best waves. Waves are usually bigger in the winter and smaller in the summer. Keep the crowds in mind – you’ll want to get there early on a summer day to get parking and claim your spot in the sand!
