Why #OptOutside?

The phrase “Opt Outside” tends to pop up this time of year and refers to boycotting traditional Black Friday shopping and choosing to be active outside instead. We couldn’t agree more with this suggestion and here are three reasons why:

Physical Health Benefits

We all spend way too much time sitting indoors either at work or on the couch at home. As the holidays give many of us some much needed vacation time, we should take advantage and spend some time outdoors! Outdoor exercise has been proven to help avoid many medical conditions, including obesity, heart disease, and more. Get a kick start to your New Year’s Resolution by being active and healthy before 2019 rings in. Instead of shopping on Black Friday, doing things like surfing, diving, hiking, biking, or any other activity will boost your physical health long before it’s even swim-suit season.

In addition to the physical advantages, being outside has been shown to promote relaxation, increase energy, boost metabolism, restore focus, uplift our moods, and so much more. We believe that nothing beats sunshine and vitamin SEA in assisting these great outdoor mental benefits. Lucky for SoCal residents and visitors, the best way to spend Black Friday is at the beach! The forecast is looking sunny, so soak it up! The surf will probably be uncrowded too while everyone else is shopping, so grab your board and get out there!

Environmental Benefits

products require large amounts of energy to produce and are responsible for a large percentage of greenhouse gasses that create climate change. The good news is you can still participate in Black Friday while you #optoutside by purchasing services or activities that take you outside instead of shopping for products. According to Wendy Frew, an Environment Reporter, “It is better to spend more of our money on services” which require fewer resources and create less waste than products and goods.
